Left, Right & Center (of an imaginary world…?)

Comment to the Left Right & Center radio program 11/1/09

The “left, right & and center” approach is thought provoking, but somehow is still enetertainment media, and ends up only talking for the entertainment value of debating more or less imaginary causes of events. That keeps it from addressing some of the more curious realities we face.

The physical world problem is really that so many of our “cultural realities” are not physical ones, but just stories, and we can’t tell the difference. We look to our stories for making our physical choices, though… evidently because how anything physically works is relatively less entertaining it seems.

The big one is our cultural belief that continually multiplying our economic use of resources has no effect on the resources available. So, we don’t see or discuss the fairly obvious dead end approaching when speculators buy up the shrinking stocks of nature’s former bounty… and send the prices through the roof… There is just such a long list of things going down that way it would be good to pay attention to it, and discuss it, but we don’t seem able to.

That subject still has no cultural reality, is the problem, and just doesn’t fit into our self-image. So we just don’t discuss it since being “curious” and “dangerous” and “factual” is not enough to make the grade as “entertainment”. That part of our societal model, the endless growth idea of “multiplying change as a constant” is blissfully self-defining, and definately not supported by the realities of a physical world. Maybe, it’s just the “bigger lie” that is easiest for people to believe, somehow. Is that a left, right or center view? No, it’s no one’s view. The profitable media are endlessly steering clear of it entirely. www.synapse9.com
